Pink - Missunderztood (2001) [Album]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Albums

misundastud pink album cover

2001 was the year of pop-diva bashing for sure. Everyone was getting sick of cheezy “baby baby” songs so artists started to rebel. And who could do it better than a pop star herself? Pink told LA Ried (her manager) to basically shove it and that she wasn’t going to be another Britney Spears. At first, they thought this album was going to be a flop….LOFL. I’m a guy, and I admit, this album was da SHIT when it came out. It’s rare to find a Top 40 pop album that REALLY “sticks it to da man” if ya know what I mean.

On a side note, this album totally transformed my sister. Before she used to be a goody goody, but after she got this CD for her birthday, you could see a DRASTIC change by the end of the year. Back when we still bought CD’s lol.

Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill (1995) [Album]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Albums

alanis jagged little pill album cover

This is one of the highest selling, and not to mention, greatest albums of the 90’s. It remains the best-selling debut album by a female artist in the U.S.. I still think Courtney Love rocked harder with her band Hole, but Alanis was still grungy (of course, Courtney still paved the way). Not exactly pop and not exactly rock, but somewhere in between, which is why she was more acceptable and popular. My favorite song from here has to be “Hand in My Pocket” because it shows that Alanis is really a great songwriter.

If you ask me, she fell off after this CD. I don’t really like her new stuff.

“I Miss Those Days (Ghost)” by Mixi [Song]

Author: Makavelli  //  Category: Music, Songs

mixi
Mixi is a singer that won this tiny tiny known reality show called “Redemption Song” on fuse. It was your typical “bad girls go girl” reality show and I really wasn’t impressed with any of the girls.

But Mixi won and later came out with this song. It’s really nostalgic and all about wanting to get back to her childhood. When I first listened to it I just wanted to gather some friends, sit around my living room, and talk about when we were kids and the crazy things we had done then and how much we had changed. It kind of sucks because we’re all at a point where we’ll be going to college or jail soon and it’s kind of like our group song. The lyrics to me are the best because Mixi’s kind of goofy and I love her voice and that she came out with something like this is amazing.

“I Love U” by Tila Tequila [Song/Music Video]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Music Videos, Songs

I saw this video the other day and I was like DAAAAAAMN this girl is awesome! I don’t usually like “myspace sluts”, but this song goes HARD and the video is super-sexy. “I Love U” sounds like a cross between a Lil Jon song and what Britney Spears SHOULD sing if she didn’t give a fuck. You can watch the video above and download the song below.

“Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera [Music Video]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Music Videos

This was the video that made me realize how talented Christina Aguilera was (and that the actually might be an music artist and not just a pop-sellout). EVERYTHING about this video is just..well…beautiful. Christina looks great, the song is great, and the video concept is great. This has to be her best song to date.

“LDN” by Lily Allen [Music Video]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Music Videos

This song describes Lily Allen’s personality perfectly. On the surface she looks like any other female singer, but when you start to pay attention to her lyrics you notice that she’s kinda, well, mean lol.

NEWSFLASH: There is no perfect family with a white picket fence and a golden retriever, a drug-free city, or a person that doesn’t sin. They don’t exist in real life, only on TV. “it’s all lies”

“Nan You’re A Window Shopper” by Lily Allen [Song]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Songs

lily allen pic Lily Allen has just a cool personality overall. I like her voice, but not many of her songs. This one is a parody of 50 Cent’s “Window Shopper” but instead she’s making fun of old people (particularly her grandmother aka “Nan”). I can relate because my grandmother is such a pessimist (and a fucking pervert for that matter). Man, it know you’re supposed to “love your dear old grandma” and all that shit but I’m sorry I DON’T. She’s one of the rudest people I’ve met.

God, I don’t wanna be old!

“Just Like A Pill” by Pink [Song]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Songs

pink I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this, but I used to have a chronic stomach problem. Let me put this way, high school was HELL for me because I was throwing up so much. But, of course, nobody in the school would believe me or give a shit when I was late for class until it was too late (I threw up on a teacher’s keyboard once). I had to carry a huge bag of pills with me to take every time I ate or when my stomach hurt. According to school policy, it’s illegal to do that (I was supposed to leave it in the clinic) but I needed the pills so frequently that I HAD to carry them around in my pocket secretly. Kids who saw me with the bag always thought I was a drug addict or some shit. I love this song because of the line “I tried to call the nurse again but she’s being a little bitch” cuz it’s sooo true.

Avril Lavigne - Let Go (2002) [Album]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Albums

let go avril album cover

Avril isn’t punk, but she IS punk-pop or pop with an attitude. Or at least she was when this came out lol. (I HATE that album with “Girlfriend” or what ever the fuck it’s called.) She and Pink were the only girls in the beginning of the new millennium that weren’t trying to be Britney Spears. She was nicknamed “the new Alanis Morissette” but unfortunately, she didn’t stay that way. My favorite song from here has to be “Nobody’s Fool.” Good stuff.

That reminds me, maybe I should share some Pink. Stay tuned folks!
