Hey, I'm Charlie Bartlett and this is my blog about teen movies, music, videos, personal rants. Feel free to make a request or ask advice and dont forget to register!
This song is so beautiful that I just needed to share it. Not to mention that I’m sure most every boy and girl in or who has gone through High School will be able to listen to this song and relate.
The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone in HS, though, so don’t expect them to be the most metaphorical or sophisticated. However, how many times have you found that lyrics of that nature ever made you feel any emotions? I really can’t think of any. I think it’s the direct lyrics that make this song, not to mention the amazing harmonies, the note choices… everything about this song is beautiful. Not to mention the point of the song rings true and happens frequently.
So I was sent a couple of videos that I should comment on for this blog. I’m pretty much game for that, since I’m usually quite opinionated. I’m going to get this one out of the way since it may be the most challenging video on which to form an opinion. I say this because, while somehow youtube has the video listed as “news and politics,” I see nothing newsworthy nor political about it. Maybe there was a controversy and the teacher was fired. I have no clue about this. Read more…
I liked Ellen Page before it was cool to like Ellen Page. I stumbled across an interview of her on YouTube talking about this movie (I think I accidentally thought it was something else) and I found myself asking…”Hey, who is this girl?” and “What an awesome concept for a movie!”
If you don’t already know, the basic plot for this movie is about a 14 year-old girl who has an “online relationship” with a guy via instant messenger and decides to meet him in real life. I don’t wanna ruin it, but I’ll say this: as it turns out, the guy who meets her isn’t really who he’s cracked up to be and she (Ellen Page) isn’t really as gullible as you’d think.
If you’re sick of all those “stupid teenage girl” stereotypes in movies then be sure to check this one out. I watched this with my lil sis (she’s 16) one weekend when I came home from college and left the DVD with her; by the time I came back to visit a week later she had already seen the movie 4 more times! (kind of obsessed I know). It’s rated R isn’t but isn’t too gory/violent. Really it’s a suspenseful movie more than anything. CLICK HERE to download/watch online…
There aren’t many good shows on ACTUAL high school life (except maybe MTV’s Made) that address real teen issues. I don’t know about you, but with most TV shows with teens today subjects like drugs, sex, religion, and family problems are either completely shunned or glorified to the point that it makes me sick. (*cough* The Secret Life Of The American Teenager *cough*)
This is a documentary series that aired on WEtv a couple of years back and documented the lives of 12 suburban high school teenage girls throughout their entire 4 years. They would go through some problems and then talk about them in private on camera whenever they wanted to (hence the name “High School Confidential”).
What I really like about this series is that it reveals that EVERYONE has issues- something I didn’t really think about when I was back in high school. Like my parents, I kind of assumed that there were just “those kids with issues” and then the “normal” ones. Even though I’m a guy, I can relate to a lot of these girls. Hell, I probably would have felt like less of a freak had I watched this back then lol.

So today’s my favorite day of the year: 4/20 aka “time to get high.” Well, if you’ve read some of my previous rants then you know that I only started celebrating this holiday a year ago, but I plan to have just as much fun as last year.
I’m sure you’ve heard the code word “420″ used before, but what most people don’t know is where the phrase came from. Is it because it’s Hitler’s birthday? Damian Marley’s birthday? The day of the Columbine events? A police code? WTF IS THE REAL MEANING?!!! Well, this little clip will explain all you need to know. Basically it got started by 6 high schoolers.
This movie changed my life. Some of my friends were going through a bunch of shit at the time I watched this movie and I was completely taken by surprise at how much this movie had in common with them. Although this movie is called 13, it really is more appropriate (or was for me anyways) for those who are 15. Fuck all those Lifetime original movies (although it does ironically get played on Lifetime sometimes lol); this is what my generation is really like.
Are you one of those people that watch tons of YouTube videos of people getting hurt and laugh? How about videos with fights, violence, blood and/or death? I bet you think you’re so different from them. I also think you should watch this movie.
Let me first start off by saying that this isn’t a “popcorn movie.” If you’re looking for mindless entertainment or a light comedy that you can watch with a bunch of your friends then skip this one. However, if you want to think about how rumors and internet video mindfuck high school students today then this is a film that brings up that point and smashes it in your face. Sitting here in my mess of a dorm room, it strikes me that I’ve been lied to. By people I’ve trusted, listened to my entire life. And it wasn’t a little lie, not like the other ones I’ve heard.
Not too long ago I shared another special called “The Merchants of Cool” which basically showed you how it’s COMPANIES, and not other teens, that make trends and fads happen. Well, here’s another special by Frontline also which explains why teenagers are the way they are- sleeping, boredom, our sex drives, mood swings. Basically anything you can shake a dick at. A lot of shit is explained in this video which reveals that teens are SUPPOSED to be tired and lazy and wanting sex all the time- it’s just the way we’re wired.
On a side note, me and my sis tried showing this to our parents to see their reaction. Needless to say, they got off our backs for about a couple of days…but then it returned to normal. Old people….they just never learn do they?
You’re walking down the hallway, and out of no where you hear someone giggle. Not a sincere giggle, but the kind of giggle that as you look over, sickens you. You see someone who is smart, and respected, act like a total airhead in front of some cute guy. Why would they change and act stupid just because they’re in front of a cute guy? Is it because they think it’s cute? Is because they don’t want to intimidate them? Not knowing things, is not cute. Playing dumb, is annoying and ridiculous and unnecessary.
