Hey, I'm Charlie Bartlett and this is my blog about teen movies, music, videos, personal rants. Feel free to make a request or ask advice and dont forget to register!
I got this requested a LOOONG time ago (sorry KillaB) and I’m just now getting to it. 8 Mile came out in 2002 and became the number one movie in America. At the same time Eminem had the number one hit song (Lose Yourself) and the number one album too. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think anyone had ever done that before.
I can’t believe this album is 10 years old! It used to be the SHIT back in grade school. I remember seeing the Bawitdaba video constantly playing on MTV. It’s a shame that when you mention Kid Rock people only know that one song from him because there are so many good songs on this album like “Cowboy” and “Devil Without A Cause” that sound great when you’re in the car. Yeah, I’m atheist, but my favorite track on the album has to be “Only God Knows Why;” it’s probably the best song made with Auto-Tune ever! Read more…
As some of you might know, I’m a huge Eminem fan and when I found out his new album had leaked I quickly rushed to download it…only to be disappointed. Obviously the man has been through some shit with depression and drugs, but he barely talks about those problems on the album. So here I present to you the best two songs on Relapse (not including the bonus tracks) “My Mom” & “Beautiful.” And waddayaknow, they both have lyrics about drugs.

Stan is Eminem’s response to people taking his music too seriously. Personally, I think it’s his best music video ever. Below I’m also including the live Grammy performance with Elton John that sparked protesters. I just love it at the end when he flicks everyone off. What a classic moment for TV.

About a week ago seriously was thinking of throwing my $400 amp out the window, then I refrained (which was the smart thing to do) and listened to some Limp Bizkit. However, I’d like to point out that this song actually DID cause a whole bunch of people to cause a riot at Woodstock ‘99 and it turned really destructive and violent, which, of course, ISN’T what Woodstock is all about. This video just ROCKS that’s all I have to say. It’s got appearances from Snoop Dogg, Dr.Dre, Eminem, and that dude from Korn in it (sorry I don’t know his name). I’d also like to point out that that STUPID Ashley Tisdale song has the same “he said she said line” and, of course, the writers of that song should be sued for plagiarism. Oh HELL YEAH! This is one of the first Eminem songs I heard of waay back in the day. I always loved this video cuz of the scene in the middle where Em and Dre just act a fool. Instead of spitting the first part of Eminem’s verse (which would have been bleeped the hell out) they acted it out (for the most part). Since I’ve just posted my Eminem collection, I thought this would be the best time to share my take on profanity in music, and why I think it is essential to the progression of music as an art form. You may notice that my rant is very formal this time. That’s because it’s taken from one of my essays I wrote for a class. (I got a B- by the way) And if you don’t like it, you can kiss my fucking ass.
Let me first start of by saying that I have a relatively clean mouth. That is, I haven’t even uttered the word “damn” around my parents. Not that I haven’t said it around my peers, but for as long as I can remember, the rule in my house has always been, “parents can say it, you can’t.” While this rule worked nearly perfectly when I was a small child, it started to become absurd around the age of 15. At this age, I was starting to get into hip hop music, and I even begun producing my own instrumentals and writing my own songs. It was then that I realized that the amount of profanity in hip-hop songs was tremendous compared to other genres of music. Even songs that I once thought to be free of profanity, turned out to originally have questionable language not heard on the radio. However, unlike my parents, I wasn’t quick to dismiss the music as tasteless. After reviewing various lyrics myself, I came up with my own rule for profanity in music: Just because a song has “bad” language in it, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad song. Read more…
Usually, I don’t post more than one album per artist, but for Em, I’m makin’ a fuckin exception. I can’t even BEGIN to explain how much I admire Eminem as a music artist. He is clearly one of the biggest voices of our generation and anyone who has taken their time to listen to one of his albums knows so. I remember when I first heard the Marshall Mathers LP when I was in 6th grade. It was like he took me into another world and that’s STILL the way I feel when I hear one of his songs. He says the shit that other artists are afraid to say without trying to be some thug that most other rappers just fake being. At the time I’m typing this post, I firmly believe that Eminem is the greatest rapper alive as well as the most influential rapper of the 21st century. If you don’t believe me, just TRY to rap his lyrics with him.
Here are his 3 best albums, I recommend listening to them in order for the best experience.
