Hey, I'm Charlie Bartlett and this is my blog about teen movies, music, videos, personal rants. Feel free to make a request or ask advice and dont forget to register!
Are you one of those people that watch tons of YouTube videos of people getting hurt and laugh? How about videos with fights, violence, blood and/or death? I bet you think you’re so different from them. I also think you should watch this movie.
Let me first start off by saying that this isn’t a “popcorn movie.” If you’re looking for mindless entertainment or a light comedy that you can watch with a bunch of your friends then skip this one. However, if you want to think about how rumors and internet video mindfuck high school students today then this is a film that brings up that point and smashes it in your face. I’ve wanted to share this movie for a long time with you guys, but I didn’t think a lot of you were mentally prepared for such a disturbing film. This movie is a fictional account of what some sex slaves go through, however the subject of human trafficking (aka selling and transporting people for slavery) is a very real crime in this world. In fact, a lot of the details are based of what really happened to a girl from Lithuania. No other movie has made my blood boil this much.
As a male, watching this movie was especially hard because, usually when I come across a sex scene in a movie I ENJOY it, but I wanted nothing more than to stop seeing the ones in this movie. I’ll say it again, this is a very hard movie to watch. So much, in fact, that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch it more than once. Lilya (the main character) is subject to a lot of physical and mental abuse. If you haven’t yet seen movies like Thirteen and Battle Royale, then I don’t think you should watch this.
The original language this movie is in is Swedish, so I’ve included the version with subtitles embedded. It’s very rare to find, which is a shame because people need to see this movie.
Damn. That’s about the only word I can think of after watching this rare 90’s movie. It’s so different from any other movies I’ve seen it’s kind of hard to describe. Part crime thriller, part romance, part drama, part indie. Some parts I was laughing my ass off and others I felt sick to my stomach. I watched it because it stars Robin Tunney who played the crazy girl in Empire Records, and guess what? She ALSO plays a crazy girl in here. Only, she has turrets disorder, OCD, and uncontrollable violent fits. And, what’s funny is, you can always forgive her in the movie for being the way she is because she’s so damn likable…well, almost.
90’s indie feel? Check. Hot girl? Check. Running away from home? Check. Storyline?….well, it would have been better if the ending wasn’t such a downer. It starts off pretty light then get’s dark; and all that could have been prevented with a little weed. I also wish they didn’t have so much unprotected sex in it- I kinda wanted the guy in it to be like “Umm, so should we actually use a condom this time or what?” lol. This is a SUPER-rare film because it was never released on DVD. You can download below or watch it online. CLICK HERE to download full movie or stream it online…
Another Day In Paradise is about a poor teen who has to rob and commit petty crimes to keep him an his girlfriend living in their shitty apartment. But one day a “big-time” robber decides to show him the ropes and together they start to go for bigger robberies. Of course it spirals out of control, but I’m not going to tell you how. This was also directed by Larry Clark (the guy who directed Bully) so expect it to be a bit controversial :).
I’m so glad this movie won all those awards back in 2008. It REALLY WAS the best movie of the year in my opinion. It stars Dev Patel (from Skins) in it and shows the gritty life of a young hustler in India. I don’t like any Bollywood movies (that’s the Indian Hollywood for those of you that don’t know) but this movie is like an American crossover version of a Bollywood movie- and it’s INCREDIBLE. Oh, and it’s got that MIA “Paper Planes” song in it so that’s cool lol. CLICK HERE to see trailer & download movie…
I still can’t believe this movie was directed by Fred Durst (the singer/rapper from Limp Bizkit) and it’s still pretty good! It’s about a college student in the 70’s (i think) that runs into his old high school bully on campus. Only, this time he tries to make friends with him- TRIES being the keyword here. It stars Jesse Eisenberg (the guy who was in Adventureland and Zombieland). If anyone wants the song from this movie just ask in a comment and I’ll be sure to put it up. Requiem For a Dream is one of those movies that you just need to see once. In fact, after I saw this movie I felt soo drained that I didn’t want to watch any other movies for the remainder of the week. I don’t think I’ve seen a movie about drugs that has terrified me as much as this one. Jared Leto (the guy from 30 Seconds To Mars) and Marlon Wayans are surprisingly good actors in this hard hitting drama. The music, of course, may be played out now because of the cult following, but it’s still very haunting.
(yes this movie is in English, I could only find the German DVD cover though)
Middle of Nowhere is an indie movie that reminded me a lot of The Wackness, but without the hip-hop. In other words, it’s a teenage summer romance about a guy who sells weed. Only this time he’s rich and is rebelling because he hates his controlling parents. It’s got the guy who played Charlie Bartlett in it, the chick who played Marissa’s younger sister from the O.C. as well as the mother from Anywhere But Here. It’d just be an ok movie, but the acting is what makes it good.
When a soldier gets stop-lossed, it basically means that they got re-drafted. They served their required term, but have to report back to the army after a certain period of time. Technically, it’s a sneaky way of illegally drafting soldiers, only the people who get “drafted” are the ones that signed up.
You may think to yourself, “Why would this be a problem?” Well, because it’s not only is it illegal, but because people’s feelings change all the time- especially when you’re shooting at people for a living. I don’t usually like movies about wars or the army, but this one effected me personally since one of my friends is in the armed forces.

For those of you that don’t know, Montel Williams is a TV talk show host. Kind of like Oprah, but a guy and with less fans (then again, Oprah is probably a man too). One thing that you may not know about him is that he smokes weed EVERYDAY before he goes on his show because he is diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and the pains he gets are unbearable without pain relief.
I love this episode because he turns the ENTIRE audience into medical marijuana supporters by the end of the episode. IT GETS INTENSE. This is a great video to show anyone who doesn’t believe that weed is useful for medical purposes.
