Hey, I'm Charlie Bartlett and this is my blog about teen movies, music, videos, personal rants. Feel free to make a request or ask advice and dont forget to register!
When Larry Flynt started Hustler Magazine, he got a lot of shit for it. Nudity, back then, was of course frowned upon and even though strip clubs were legal they weren’t glorified as they are today in music videos. I mean, SHIT, the dude got shot and is in a wheelchair today so that people like us can masturbate peacefully!
I love this movie because it’s a non-x-rated way of explaining why those who hate pornography are hypocrites. Plus it’s got Edward Norton (from American History X) and Courtney Love (who ROCKS) in it.
While I’m sharing The Distillers I might as well post their best CD. HANDS DOWN this is the best female-fronted punk album to come out in the last decade! Forget Paramore (I’m sorry but all their songs sound the same) Brody can ROCK! My fav tracks: The Hunger, Dismantle Me, For Tonight…, and of course, Hall Of Mirrors. Oh, and above is the banned version of the album cover (you can only get it on vinyl).
As I’ve said b4, I’m a huge Courtney Love fan. So naturally, when Brody Dalle (the lead singer) from The Distillers came out singing almost EXACTLY like her, I LOVED IT. She may not have as much range or pronounce her words as clear as Courtney (take “Young Crazed Peeling” for instance, she sounds like she doesn’t care how she sings it), but she sings passionately and her lyrics almost always are deep. Which is why I’m sharing both (in my opinion) the BEST AND WORST songs that The Distillers have done. Read more…
As I’ve stated before, I’d be posting Hole’s (Courtney Love’s band) best album. This album was released only 4 days after Cobain’s death. As a result, a lot of people started calling Courtney a “sellout” but this of course, was not the case. It’s a well known fact that album release dates are planned months before.
The first time I heard this album I was like “OMG! This girl is fuckin possessed!” That’s because this is the ULTIMATE anti-pop-diva record of the 90’s. Everything about this album, from the song structure to the lyrics, to her screaming is a rebellion against the pop shit that most girl-fronted bands were conforming to at the time. It paved the way for other alternative girl acts of the decade. I GUARANTEE you bands like Flyleaf and The Distillers wouldn’t have even existed at if it weren’t for this album. TIME magazine even called it “the greatest and most influential records ever.”
My favorite tracks on this have to be “Violet” and “Rock Star” although, I think the other’s are good as well in an abstract way. This album is PURE ART.
“Awful” is a song about how young girls who can sing get suckered into the music industry and become used-up pop divas (*cough* BRITNEY SPEARS *cough*). “Celebrity Skin” is about how becoming a “sellout” is better than getting nowhere in life and that you don’t have to be exploited to do it. I love the line “no i’m not sellin cheap” Courtney Love KNOWS she’s a sellout, and she’s just getting the most out of it. Fuck, if I was famous, i’d try to do the same thing.
Oh and I’m including “Malibu” and my favorite song off the “Celebrity Skin” album “Dying”. So there you go. I’ll be posting their good album later.
As you may already know, I’m a HUGE Nirvana fan, and I’m a HUGE Courtney Love fan as well. Fuck all those rumors about her. Give the woman a break. It’s really horrible what the press has done to her image just because she’s not afraid to speak her mind. It’s almost as bad as what they did to Britney Spears. Years after her band Hole released their classic album “Live Through This” she finally started her solo career with this album. That being said, I personally think that this is a mediocre album compared to “Live Through This” but I’m still sharing it because it’s pretty hard to find on the net. Read more…
