Hey, I'm Charlie Bartlett and this is my blog about teen movies, music, videos, personal rants. Feel free to make a request or ask advice and dont forget to register!
Contrary to what you may be expecting, this isn’t some lame flick about “a chick that roller-skates.” It’s got some great scenes in it that capture suburban family issues PERFECTLY. I may be a guy, but when Ellen Page has a fight with her mother I can relate SOOO much to it. Hell, I think we all can. It’s a shame that this movie didn’t get the box office sales it deserved because it’s got the makings of a cult classic: comedy/drama/growing pains/sports/romance/indie rock/Drew Barrymore… shit, it even makes Jimmy Fallon look funny and he’s NEVER funny!!! On a side note, when this movie was released in the theaters, me and my sis had to drive 25 miles from my house and go to some random indie movie cinema just because no mainstream ones were playing it.
There aren’t many good shows on ACTUAL high school life (except maybe MTV’s Made) that address real teen issues. I don’t know about you, but with most TV shows with teens today subjects like drugs, sex, religion, and family problems are either completely shunned or glorified to the point that it makes me sick. (*cough* The Secret Life Of The American Teenager *cough*)
This is a documentary series that aired on WEtv a couple of years back and documented the lives of 12 suburban high school teenage girls throughout their entire 4 years. They would go through some problems and then talk about them in private on camera whenever they wanted to (hence the name “High School Confidential”).
What I really like about this series is that it reveals that EVERYONE has issues- something I didn’t really think about when I was back in high school. Like my parents, I kind of assumed that there were just “those kids with issues” and then the “normal” ones. Even though I’m a guy, I can relate to a lot of these girls. Hell, I probably would have felt like less of a freak had I watched this back then lol.
This movie changed my life. Some of my friends were going through a bunch of shit at the time I watched this movie and I was completely taken by surprise at how much this movie had in common with them. Although this movie is called 13, it really is more appropriate (or was for me anyways) for those who are 15. Fuck all those Lifetime original movies (although it does ironically get played on Lifetime sometimes lol); this is what my generation is really like.
I’m so glad this movie won all those awards back in 2008. It REALLY WAS the best movie of the year in my opinion. It stars Dev Patel (from Skins) in it and shows the gritty life of a young hustler in India. I don’t like any Bollywood movies (that’s the Indian Hollywood for those of you that don’t know) but this movie is like an American crossover version of a Bollywood movie- and it’s INCREDIBLE. Oh, and it’s got that MIA “Paper Planes” song in it so that’s cool lol. CLICK HERE to see trailer & download movie…
This isn’t one of the best teen movies I’ve seen, but it’s enough to put you into a good mood. It addresses things like putting up with your bratty friends because they’re rich, having a shitty after school job, and being obsessed with older women.
Aside from the whole civil-war-reenactment thing, I’m pretty sure most guys can relate to this movie.

This is a short 16 minute movie written and directed by the talented and beautiful Kate Hudson (the actress from my favorite movie Almost Famous). Even though she isn’t actually in it, the super-fine Kristen Stewart is…so that’s good. I thought I’d share this because it’s about how parents have the power to help you make big purchases like a car or a guitar and GOD DAMMIT I WANT A CAR SO BAD!
Ugh! I’m gonna be going to school in a few weeks and it looks like I’m gonna have ta walk 20 minutes each way for a couple days a week since my cousin can’t give me a ride on certain days. DAMMIT! I had ONE (count it…1!) goal this summer and that was to get a car. I seriously thought my parents were going to get me one for my birthday but they didn’t (just like last year, and the year before that).
Ok, I’m done sulking. Feel free to drop any comments about having a car-less life.
I’ll admit it, I never got a prom date. Don’t get me wrong, I knew a few girls who I knew would go with me…but they were either obnoxiously geeky or fat. So I just went with some friends and ended up having an ok time. This movie won’t change your life or anything, but it’s a nice change of pace from all those movies that portray the Senior Prom as this big fucking party where everyone suddenly turns cool at.
I know what it looks like. It LOOKS like a movie about a kid from the hood who wants to make something of himself so he joins the Navy. Well, I assure you that there’s A LOT more to the story than that. This movie almost made me cry at one point. I know Denzel hasn’t really changed his style since Man on Fire, but he’s great in this movie and even directed it. Antwone Fisher is a real person who has gone on to write movie scripts. Read more…

This is my favorite movie of all time. For a number of reasons: I first saw this when I was 15, I have a secret writing job, I have a nosy embarrassing over-protective mother like the one in this movie, and I want to tour on the road someday. This is the directors/extended/bootleg cut or whatever you want to call it. Basically it’s 30 minutes longer than the original and is sooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome. I know 22 links are a lot to download but TRUST ME it’s worth it! Read more…
Here we have yet another hard-to-find DVDRip. This indie film isn’t the most flashy romantic flick, but it’s pretty realistic. If you’re looking for something as mellow as a summer day, then check this out. I can really relate to the main character, not because he’s a player (that’s not me at all lol), but because I constantly get blamed for things EVEN IF I DIDN’T DO THEM by my parents. Read more…
