Religulous (2008) [Movie]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Movies

Bill Maher is probably the most famous celebrity-atheist and one of my heroes. In this documentary he goes around to some of the most religious places and reveals all the hypocrisy of the people there. This is one of those movies that can turn an agnostic into an atheist. I wish I would have seen something like this years ago.

WTF?!!! John Hughes Died! [Video]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Viral Videos

Ok um WHAT THE FUCK!??? Apparently John Hughes died back in August and nobody told me! Damn this is bad news. For those of you who don’t know who John Hughes was he was basically the 80’s king of teen movies. (he directed Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club etc.) Ok, I think I’m gonna cry now. Jk, but seriously, this guy was important. Here’s a 9-minute compilation of some of the greatest scenes from his movies sit back and enjoy. :)

The Hangover Is A Rip-Off! [Video]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Viral Videos

So, I saw the Hangover about a week ago and I couldn’t stop thinkin…where have I seen this before? Yeah, it was kinda funny, but it had a lot of stereotypes and unrealistic moments (like when they got handed tuxedos from some random van on the highway JUST in time for the wedding). Observe and Report was sooo much funnier, but it didn’t get nearly as much attention as The Hangover did. Anyways, I stumbled across this clip and hit hit me- The Hangover is a rip-off of Dude Where’s My Car!

Adventureland (2009) [Movie]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Movies

I wanted to see Adventureland in the theatres because I heard it was from the director of Superbad, so I just HAD to watch it. But by the time I got around to it, all the movie theaters near my house didn’t have it playing anymore (probably because of the release of fucking Transformers 2 which sucked ASS). When I finally got to watch it, it turned out to be COMPLETELY different from what I was expecting. Don’t believe the trailers, this is a ROMANCE movie NOT Superbad 2.

Yeah it’s a “geek gets the girl” movie, but in a pretty realistic way. Another good thing about it is it’s set in the 80’s and has 80’s music so it king of reminded me of John Hughes movies (Breakfast Club, Ferris Beuller’s Day Off). Plus it’s got Kristen Stewart from Twilight in it (who is hot as always). If you’re ever had a shitty job that you put up with because of the cool people you got to work with, then you can relate to this movie.

Little Miss Sunshine (2006) [Movie]

little miss sunshine DVD cover

This dramedy movie gets better every time I see it (ok, I’ve only seen it twice, but it’s true). The dialogue is so real it’s almost like the writer spied on my family to inspire some of these characters. The music is great too. If you’re wondering why it’s rated “R” it’s because there talk about suicide and a lot of “fucks”. If it were up to me, this film would be a PG-13.

Everybody’s Doing It (2002) [Movie]

everybodys doing it mtv DVD cover

I’ll admit, this movie doesn’t have the best acting in it at times (it’s made by MTV for fuck sake), but it was requested and it does bring up an important point that promising not to have sex or “abstinence” as the church-goers call it, isn’t really practical in today’s society. If you still don’t believe me, then watch The Education Of Shelby Knox. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a 19 year old virgin. Yeah, I said it, VIRGIN and I can safely say that the only reason why I haven’t gotten laid yet is because no girl has yet agreed to have sex with me; NOT because I choose to not have sex.

Think about it, if you take away all the superficial pressures about sex: the fear of STDs and pregnancy, the rumors spread in school, the false belief that you must be “in love” to get it on, or that some non-existent all-powerful being will punish you for fucking (God), then sex is just a feel-good activity.

It’s an interesting fact that most people who choose to participate in a pledge for abstinence in high school deny that they ever did 5 years later. It’s the 21st century people! Use protection, fuck with someone you trust, and I’m positive you’ll be fine.

The Graduate (1967) [Movie]

Personally I think this movie is overrated (yeah, I KNOW it was the first movie to have a young student and an older woman having an affair) but a lot of people think this movie is a classic. I saw it in my film class and enjoyed a few awkward laughs (kind of like in Garden State, although not as good).

It was made in the 60’s so some of the subject matter is kind of dated. But, I have to say, if you’re a male college student, this is kind of a requirement.

Skipped Parts (2000) [Movie]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Movies

skipped parts DVD cover

Sex at 14? Well, it didn’t happen to me, but it DOES happen. This is a classic example of a movie that SHOULD have been rated PG-13 but was rated R because those MPAA dildos didn’t like young teens talking about sex in a movie. Well, ok, technically they DO have sex, but you never really see it. Basically, it’s a funny movie about young teens who DON’T feel awkward about talking about and having sex- something not really seen in a lot of hollywood movies.

Oh, and it stars Drew Barrymore and Mischa Barton who played Marissa in The O.C. Geez, I wish one of THEM would have been my “friend with benefits” when I was 14!
