This was the last song recorded by Kurt Cobain before he died. It’s really haunting and the lyrics are intense. There will always be people that suspect foul play in his suicide, but to me it’s obvious he killed himself. Just listen to the lyrics, he wasn’t happy and this song proves it. The compilation of Nirvana’s stage footage goes great with this song, it just goes to show you how much they really did rock. CLICK HERE to download the DVDrip…

I watch this video when I get depressed, and it always makes me feel better. The strange thing is, I knew about The Fray about a year before they got popular at my school because my cousin had the leaked album. I remember listening to the album and thinking it was great, but this song never stood out to be until the music video was released. Some songs NEED a music video ya know?
White Houses by Vanessa Carlton may be the most beautiful song about sex, but this is quite possibly the sexiest song ever made. It’s too bad the band didn’t live past one album (this was really the only good song on it). Oh and you might recognize this song from the movie Empire Records.
On a side note to you peeps: I have a lot of stuff coming up in in the next few weeks so I don’t know when I’ll be able to do another post (or send out the newsletter for that matter). I’ve got an essay to write, a project to do, a test to study for, a book to read, and a shit to take.
Wish me luck, and I’ll be in touch with you peeps later!
Lily Allen has just a cool personality overall. I like her voice, but not many of her songs. This one is a parody of 50 Cent’s “Window Shopper” but instead she’s making fun of old people (particularly her grandmother aka “Nan”). I can relate because my grandmother is such a pessimist (and a fucking pervert for that matter). Man, it know you’re supposed to “love your dear old grandma” and all that shit but I’m sorry I DON’T. She’s one of the rudest people I’ve met.
While were on the subject of relaxing songs, here we have the ORIGINAL version of “Boston” by Augustana. They released an album version of it which is sometimes played on the radio (i think it hit the top 40 sometime in 2006) but that version is overproduced shit compared to this one.
I LOVE this song because it describes the way I feel right now. I really REALLY want to move out of this crappy city and go somewhere “where no one knows my name.” I just love the line “Essential yet appealed” meaning, the person in the song isn’t feeling wanted where she is because she’s changed.
On a side note, I’ve actually spray painted to this song lol.
Ok, earlier I said that “The God Of Wine” by Third Eye Blind was the most relaxing song I’ve ever heard. I’ll admit, I lied (what r u gonna do rape me?). There are a ton of other relaxing songs that I know. Since I have insomnia, when I find a relaxing song I usually keep listening to it over and over until it puts me to sleep. THIS is one of those songs. It’s about realizing that life is beautiful and that you should stop and “smell the roses” once in a while. Because, without your appreciation, the world is just…there. Hence the line “the sky could be blue, i don’t mind/ without YOU it’s a waste of time.”
The sad truth is, the older we get, we often forget this. In the beginning of the song he talks about being on a swing and how his “feet won’t touch the ground” and how “everyone was for fighting” because when you’re young you never want to stop having fun to the point that you’d “fight” for it.
Since we’re on the subject of the Columbine shootings, I thought I’d share this song. It’s about the girl (Cassie Bernall) that was asked by one of the shooters if she believed in God. She said “yes” and he shot her.
Hell, I don’t even believe in God (well, at least in the way that most people do) and I STILL have to admit this is a damn good song. The overall message is great: stand up for what you believe, even if it kills you.
[EDIT: It has recently come to my attention that the story of Cassie was a fabrication by the press. So this song isn't really a "based on a true story." See comments below.]
This is the album that started it all for me. Before this I was still listening to that top 40 crap my parents listened to on the radio. I can say with confidence that this is the only music album that I’ve ever heard that I thought/still think is perfect in every way. I’ll admit, when I first heard it in 9th grade I wasn’t accustomed to listening to alternative music. Since this is about as alternative as you can get I didn’t like the majority of the album, but for some reason, year after year, I kept going back to this album and found that I liked it more and more each time. Hopefully you will too.
