WTF?!!! John Hughes Died! [Video]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Viral Videos

Ok um WHAT THE FUCK!??? Apparently John Hughes died back in August and nobody told me! Damn this is bad news. For those of you who don’t know who John Hughes was he was basically the 80’s king of teen movies. (he directed Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club etc.) Ok, I think I’m gonna cry now. Jk, but seriously, this guy was important. Here’s a 9-minute compilation of some of the greatest scenes from his movies sit back and enjoy. :)

Uncle Buck (1989) [Movie]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Movies

People always say I’ll probably be a cool uncle when I grow up, hopefully I’ll be as cool as Uncle Buck in this John Hughes (the dude to make Breakfast Club) movie. This movie has everything: teen angst, a party scene, and embarrassing family members. Who CAN’T relate to this movie?

Risky Business (1983) [Movie]

If it weren’t for this movie, it’s safe to say Tom Cruise wouldn’t have had such a successful career. The plot revolves around him being a rich high school student. When his parents go on vacation he hires a prostitute, drives his dad’s expensive sports car, throws a party, and gets in a hell of a lot of trouble. If this plot sounds a little familiar that’s because A LOT of movies copied this movie. Hell, that damn Guitar Hero commercial copied it! But this will always remain one of the best movies of the 80s that pushed the limits about sex and teens.

My favorite line has to be “Sometimes you just gotta say ‘What the fuck?!’”

The Breakfast Club (1985) [Movie]

Wow, I’m late as a period for posting this movie now. I MEANT to share it back when I posted Stand By Me but I guess I forgot. This has to be my favorite movie of the 80’s because it’s the very FIRST major movie to actually address teen problems like depression, abuse, peer pressure, and sex. It makes you realize that, even though everyone may be part of some “click” we all have the same problems.

One of my favorite/most important scenes has to be the one where they interrogate Molly Ringwald (the redhead) about being a virgin. Shit, I’m 19 and still a virgin AND ashamed of it. I guess things haven’t really changed much since the 80’s lol. John Hughes (the director) is overrated in my opinion and usually has some very stereotypical films, but at the same time I don’t mind in this movie because of the realistic writing.

SLC Punk (1998) [Movie]

slc punk DVD cover

SLC Punk stars Matthew Lillard (yeah, the dude who played Shaggy in Scooby Doo and the bad guy in Scream) who is actually a very versatile actor. In this movie he plays a recent 1985 college graduate who, instead of going to Harvard Law School like is father suggests, dedicates his life to parties, rock shows, car theft, and hanging out with the punks. Jason Segel (from Freaks & Geeks) also has a minor role in this film. This movie has a great message: “punk” isn’t what you look like, who you hang out with, or what you listen to. Punk is a state of mind.

Stand By Me (1986) [Movie]

Technically this movie doesn’t star any teens, but it doesn’t matter. This movie is up there with The Breakfast Club as one of the the best movies of the 80’s. It features something REAL that you don’t usually see in most Hollywood movies nowadays: pre-teens cussing. Shit, when I was 12 I know I was cussing like a motherfucker at school. The plot goes like this: a group of boys find out that a boy their age might be dead and they go on a quest to find him….or his body.
