Bill Maher is probably the most famous celebrity-atheist and one of my heroes. In this documentary he goes around to some of the most religious places and reveals all the hypocrisy of the people there. This is one of those movies that can turn an agnostic into an atheist. I wish I would have seen something like this years ago.

While I’m still on the subject of Ex, I might as well share this HBO documentary about a family who is torn apart because of ecstasy. Not because it kills anyone or anything…but because of the mere fact that it’s illegal.

I found this really interesting because it has to do with a father who goes to raves with his son and takes Ex. The father is having a mid-life crisis, I guess, and he realizes that he needs to live a little before it’s too late. Not that doing so is a bad thing, but damn…he should have done it before he had kids.

Kiera Knightly is hot. Ok, now that I’ve got that off my chest I’d like to tell you how good I think this movie is. Sure, it’s targeted towards chicks, but it’s not JUST some soccer film about girls. It also has cultural things about how much it sucks to have foreign controlling parents (something I can relate to). Just thought I’d share this cuz most of the movies I’ve been sharing lately are pretty dramatic. This one’s fun. Enjoy it with a friend and/or popcorn.

Mixi is a singer that won this tiny tiny known reality show called “Redemption Song” on fuse. It was your typical “bad girls go girl” reality show and I really wasn’t impressed with any of the girls.

But Mixi won and later came out with this song. It’s really nostalgic and all about wanting to get back to her childhood. When I first listened to it I just wanted to gather some friends, sit around my living room, and talk about when we were kids and the crazy things we had done then and how much we had changed. It kind of sucks because we’re all at a point where we’ll be going to college or jail soon and it’s kind of like our group song. The lyrics to me are the best because Mixi’s kind of goofy and I love her voice and that she came out with something like this is amazing.

I’ve wanted to share this movie for a long time with you guys, but I didn’t think a lot of you were mentally prepared for such a disturbing film. This movie is a fictional account of what some sex slaves go through, however the subject of human trafficking (aka selling and transporting people for slavery) is a very real crime in this world. In fact, a lot of the details are based of what really happened to a girl from Lithuania. No other movie has made my blood boil this much.

As a male, watching this movie was especially hard because, usually when I come across a sex scene in a movie I ENJOY it, but I wanted nothing more than to stop seeing the ones in this movie. I’ll say it again, this is a very hard movie to watch. So much, in fact, that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch it more than once. Lilya (the main character) is subject to a lot of physical and mental abuse. If you haven’t yet seen movies like Thirteen and Battle Royale, then I don’t think you should watch this.

The original language this movie is in is Swedish, so I’ve included the version with subtitles embedded. It’s very rare to find, which is a shame because people need to see this movie.

I still can’t believe this movie was directed by Fred Durst (the singer/rapper from Limp Bizkit) and it’s still pretty good! It’s about a college student in the 70’s (i think) that runs into his old high school bully on campus. Only, this time he tries to make friends with him- TRIES being the keyword here. It stars Jesse Eisenberg (the guy who was in Adventureland and Zombieland). If anyone wants the song from this movie just ask in a comment and I’ll be sure to put it up.

As I may have mentioned before, I once attended a Christian camp (even though I grew up Muslim, my parents insisted that I go since it wasn’t supposed to be very religious). Once I got there I realized that my parents were wrong- the camp was VERY religious and we even had to go to church and pray on some days. Needless to say, the ignorance of all of the kids came out once they found out I wasn’t part of their religion and I was taunted on a daily basis.

I now realize that the way they treated me was only a reflection of their Evangelical upbringing. If you’ve ever known someone who was a Jesus freak and wanted to know WHY they act the way they do then check this movie out. The brainwashing in this movie is just sick- I’d even go as far as calling it non-physical child abuse.

I was invited to a Hell House back in Middle School, but THANKFULLY I didn’t go to it. After seeing this documentary, I realized that Hell Houses are basically another scared-straight method of pushing vulnerable kids into converting. Basically, what happens is Churches get their teen church members to play “bad kids who need to be saved” and put on a mini-plays about how life without Jesus is basically hell on earth. It’s scary how many kids are converted to Christians after going to Hell Houses. The next time Halloween rolls around, I’d advise you NOT to attend any Hell Houses if you want to have a good time. Unless, of course, you’d like to see disgusting re-enactments of abortions.

Then again…you could always go for the comedic relief.

Requiem For a Dream is one of those movies that you just need to see once. In fact, after I saw this movie I felt soo drained that I didn’t want to watch any other movies for the remainder of the week. I don’t think I’ve seen a movie about drugs that has terrified me as much as this one. Jared Leto (the guy from 30 Seconds To Mars) and Marlon Wayans are surprisingly good actors in this hard hitting drama. The music, of course, may be played out now because of the cult following, but it’s still very haunting.
