Are You Gullible? / The Reason Why I’m Atheist [Video/Rant]

Author: Charlie Bartlett  //  Category: Rants, Viral Videos

This is it. This is the video that made me 99% atheist (I say 99% because the other 1% was my philosophy class). I, like so many other people that clicked on the video did it for two reasons: 1) the girl is hot, and 2) I thought to myself “Gullible isn’t in the dictionary? WTF??!! I gotta click this shit!”

Before you read my rant below I’d like to point out that I was not atheist when I started this blog (2 years ago). In fact, my whole entire high school life I was a “good Muslim boy” (as my parents used to say) that prayed 3 times a day. LOL.

atheist atheism

So yeah. I guess I didn’t really question my religion before I saw this. Sure, I questioned other things like the IQ of my parents and the importance of Chemistry after you graduate from high school, but never religion for some reason. This video made me think for hours after I saw it. I was just sick of not making up my mind when it came to my beliefs….so I thought long and hard and was like…”ok…well….I guess I might not believe in God then.”

Just to test out my theory I stopped praying for a week. I wanted to see if my life dramatically got worse- and you know what? NOTHING HAPPENED! I haven’t prayed since. It’s a waste of time and I felt like I was tricked my whole life. I never believed in Santa Claus, so I guess realizing God didn’t exist was a pretty low blow for me.

My parents on the other hand, still think I believe in God. You see, I was raised in a fairly religious household. My mother used to be a Christian before she married my dad and converted to Islam (which is why we used to celebrate Christmas when I was little). My great uncle is actually an important member on the board for our Imam (that’s kind of like the Pope for my type of Muslims). Anyways, so if I were to come out and me like “Hey, guess what? I don’t believe in God!” They’d probably take away my car and send me to a shrink or something crazy.

On a side note, i’d just thought I’d point out something I started to notice AFTER I became atheist. I don’t know if it’s really true or anything, but for some reason girls that I meet who are religious just aren’t as hot as the atheist ones. Maybe it’s because they don’t have to think “Am I going to hell for wearing this?” every time they pick their clothes. I mean, there’s a REASON why there’s no Religious porn stars right?? I dunno, just thought I’d share that with you for no reason.

Her Response

After her video gained millions of views, she finally decided to post a response video to all the haters. Hell yeah! This girl is my fucking hero.

its sad dt a vedio as shallow as that converted you- but if it did, ur conversion will not really create dt consequential ripples- meaning, it wasnt that imp! no offence,, coz i m agnostic, but u need to broaden your horizons dude! srsly, i fot wid my dad years ago, n it cums down to faith and subsequently religion, but u need to understand the true essence of it to de-throne its appeal. I liked your stand, not ur argument, sry. no offence. n i dont mean to be rude, but u can be deeper.

  2. sal Says:

ok, sry, rudeness was uncalled for, its jus ur giving the shortcuts dude! but its ur blog so, sry!

  3. Charlie Bartlett Says:

@sal, naw man that’s cool that’s what comments are for. it took me about a year from seeing that video to actually make me change my beliefs.

anyways, have you ever seen the movie Religulous? if you truly want to “broaden your horizons” i really suggest you check it out. you can watch it online in the movies section if you’re a member

  4. Skyfire Says:

I watched the video for thirty seconds before I stopped it… sorry, dude, but she’s one annoying girl. I don’t think that if I were religious I’d give it up for her.

I’ve been an atheist as far back as eighth grade mostly because the people I know who are religious annoy me to no end, and some of them are truly bad. How can you believe in God and say that you’re a good person and somehow still think in your mind that you would kill someone because you don’t like them? And why is it that all the greedy assholes are religious? And why is it that you can do something wrong, and if you’re “truly sorry,” this God will forgive you? But he won’t forgive the good people who don’t believe? And, of course, all the stuff that happens in the name of whatever God you choose. Horrible stuff.

I also see all of the crap that goes on in the world and believe that if there was an all-powerful God of some sort, he would intervene.

By the way, there are pornstars who became religious and left the business.

  5. Charlie Bartlett Says:

@Skyfire: you couldn’t watch more than 30 seconds??? really??? I’d hate to have your attention-span. It’s actually a good video if you give it a chance.

“By the way, there are pornstars who became religious and left the business.” I think you’re referring to Crissy Moran who conveniently released a movie right after she “found Jesus” LOL she’s probably one of those “greedy people” you might be referring to.

  6. Skyfire Says:

Charlie, it’s not my attention span that’s at fault but the fact that everything about her annoys the fuck out of me (plus the shitty editing job) that accounts for my lack of interest.

And the pornstars I were referring to were Brooke Ballantyne and Jersey Jaxin (yep, now you can gauge my porn watching habits :D), who both “found Jesus” and stopped doing anything anymore (or, in Jersey’s case, hated everything about the industry, found Jesus, and that’s it).

    @Skyfire:
I’m guessing you still didn’t watch the video? I phrased my comment in that way so that you’d think twice about judging a video in a mere 30 seconds. In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t share videos on this blog just to get hits- there’s a reason behind them. This particular one was actually #10 on the “most discussed” section of YouTube at one point and even got 500 video responses. A lot of people got pretty upset at the original video for it’s actual content, not the way the girl looked or her “shitty” editing (can you do any better?).

This blog is about being open towards new ways of thinking. How do you know you hate something if you don’t try it? It’s not even 3 minutes long. If you hate the video AFTER you actually watch it, it’s fine with me. After all, I’m not trying to convince you- you’re already atheist.

And as for religious pornstars, I rest my case. I still can’t find any pornstars (current not former) that fuck in the name of Jesus….unless they’re screaming “Oh GOD!” or something.

  8. Skyfire Says:

I’ll give it another shot tonight, then, dude. Your original comment sounded more like an attack on my attention span in general, which was a tad insulting. But I’ll watch the video later and leave another comment. I can imagine it would be very controversial and upsetting… especially in America. Almost 95% of Americans have a religion of some sort, and in the area I live in particularly… people stared at me for eating a sub sandwich on Good Friday. I’m basically a heathen.

As for the editing… okay, bad choice of words. Not shitty… a bit “spastic” maybe. For example, she says something, and then it repeats that bit again. If she just filmed her rant without the goofy vocal tones or really any editing at all, I probably wouldn’t have wrote what I did.

I’ll catch you later on this. :)

  9. Skyfire Says:

Well, Charlie, I’m back having listened to the audio (I believe that should be sufficient enough), and I still think she’s a tad annoying in her presentation, and that most of what she says should be something of common sense. My history teacher made sure he ingrained the same points in our mind, but regarding government, basically because he doesn’t trust them at all. When you don’t trust something, you question it. Again, common sense. But, it’s youtube, and you can put your opinion (or singing and guitar “skills”… ugh) on there. I don’t think I’d have the balls to take the flack for it, myself, so it’s pretty commendable of her.

But I also have something for you to consider, and I want to try being fair about it. You mentioned that you stopped praying for a week, and nothing bad happened. Most people I know pray not because they feel it will change their life drastically or they will get something good out of it, but because it’s a personal comfort, and it may make them feel better despite their personal grief. For me, I almost consider music a religion. When I listen to music, it almost overtakes me. I can feel myself almost coming out of my body, and when I’m done, I feel much better than I did before.

By the way, I like the blog and specifically the rants. It can be a meeting of the minds or a complete disagreement, but it’s interesting. :)

  10. Charlie Bartlett Says:

    @Skyfire:
“I’m back having listened to the audio” LOL that made me laugh. I think we’ve got a similar sarcastic smartass sense of humor. Sorry if I came off a bit insulting, there’s only so much feeling you can put in text and I don’t like to sugar coat anything if I can help it.

As for praying for comfort, I’m sure people do that; I know my uncle does every Friday. Then again he’s 56, works at a shoe store for $8 an hour, and hates his wife. Going to pray and meet his friends at the mosque are ways of escaping for him. As for me, whenever I was dragged to the mosque to pray as a kid all I could think of were thoughts like “Is it time to go yet?” and “God, if you can hear me, PLEASE let me get home in time to see the Disney Channel original movie.”

Honestly, I didn’t think you’d reply as descriptively as you did. I appreciate you taking the time to read my other rants and responding (most people would have just left a hateful comment and left). Btw, I’d be interested to hear you opinions on certain topics, do u wanna write for the blog?

  11. Skyfire Says:

I don’t know if I have anything interesting enough to write for the blog. :)

Really, most of what I complain about is politically related, and it’s stuff that probably wouldn’t affect me personally, but I still have some moral stance against/for it. Social issues and such. I haven’t the life experience to help you too much.

  12. Jace Says:

Well, this video wasnt good in my honest opinion. The way i see it, the ideas are nothing new and the delivery IS annoying. But its made me think (again) which is what it was meant to do. Religion, to me, is confusing. I dont believe in accident, or coincidence; but i cant bring myself to believe in any God that man has envisioned, past or present.

@Skyfire i hear you about the music dude. I dont have a clue what i’d do without my iPod on those long nights or before and after a big day.

“I dont believe in accident, or coincidence; but i cant bring myself to believe in any God that man has envisioned, past or present.”

Since I made this post, my definition of the word “God” has changed. I’ve come to the realization that God is a concept of everything- INCLUDING us. Whatever we do affects everyone and everything around us…and if you think about it, THAT is ultimate power.

Hence, WE = GOD (collectively anyways). When people get “angry at god” for “taking away” one of their loved ones, they are only getting angry at themselves.
