Hey, I'm Charlie Bartlett and this is my blog about teen movies, music, videos, personal rants. Feel free to make a request or ask advice and dont forget to register!
Technically this isn’t a TV show, but more like a documentary series that occasionally airs on VH1 late at night. It explains the entire sexual history of America. EVERYTHING from the uptight 50’s, the open 60’s, the porn backlash in the 80’s and even more recent things like the Bill Clinton’s sex scandal and Paris Hilton’s sex tape. This series answers important questions like “Whatever happened to saving yourself before marriage?” After you watch this you’ll probably agree with me when I say that abstinence is a joke.
If only they taught people this in sex ed. You can download each part and play them separately below.
Freaks & Geeks is perhaps the most realistic teen show ever. Or at least, the one I can relate to the most since I guess I was categorized as either a Freak or a Geek in my school days then I just “didn’t give a damn bout my reputation”. Granted, the time it’s set in is the 1980’s, but it was made by Judd Apatow (my favorite producer in Hollywood right now who also made Superbad) in 1999. I remember watching the episode with the porno tape WITH MY MOM (how embarrassing is that!?) when it was airing on TV, then I didn’t dare to watch it again while she was there (thank God for the Internet lol). The first episode isn’t that good, but keep watching it. It gets REALLY awesome. Too bad it was canceled after only one season.
This is one of the better teen dramas from the 90’s. It’s not very good or bad, but kind of in the middle. It’s something to watch when you’re bored with 45 minutes to kill. I remember occasionally catching this on TV when I was younger, but I never really started to get into it until I was in my teens. Really, the only reason I wanted to watch Party of Five again was because I was thinking of running away and/or living with some of my friends at the time (with the little money that I had) and I wanted to see what it would be like for teens to support themselves.
Since this show was about a family that supported themselves without their parents (they died in a car crash), I thought it was perfect “research.” This show was kind of a reality check for me. Then again, I’ve never seen any episodes past the first season. Even though I liked the whole grunge-style of the show, it just wasn’t that interesting to me since I’m used to slick “OC-type” teen dramas. Maybe when I’m bored I’ll pick up where I left off. Who knows, you might like it more than I did… Read more…
Since Afroman got me on the subject of drugs, I thought it’d only be appropriate to share VH1’s documentary about the history of drugs in America. Like it or not, drugs have become apart of American society. Like the movie Grass, this does a very good job at portraying BOTH sides of the drug culture. This includes all four parts (Break On Through, Feed Your Head, Teenage Wasteland, Just Say No!) merged into one HQ avi file. Of course, this aired on TV so they had to end it with the whole “this is your brain on drugs” fried-egg analogy. But personally, this movie made me think about how much I missed out on. Read more…
Hands down My So-Called Life was one of the greatest teen shows of the 90s (if not THE best). I don’t even care if the main character was a girl, this show ROCKED! It was the O.C. of it’s day because it was one of the first American shows to REALISTICALLY address things like drugs, sex, homosexuality, depression, etc. Sure, that gay-ass Degrassi show TRIED but, of course, it was cheesy as hell. Plus, this show was made back in 1994 so it’s AUTOMATICALLY cool. Unfortunately, there was never a second season, but you can download all of the first season below in HQ or watch it online if you’re a member. Download Full Episodes or Watch online…
Let me first set this straight: I HATE THIS SHOW. To me it’s trying too hard to be like Skins. It’s really fake and has some horrible acting but you know what, it’s pretty damn hard to find so I’m gonna share the links. Read more…
Skins is/was one of the biggest controversial teen dramas in the United Kingdom (that’s England for you idiots out there). No, this series isn’t as good as The OC. Hell, sometimes it’s pretty unrealistic. But it IS really fun to watch because of how original the production/concept is. The majority of the cast is made up of first-time actors, the majority of the music is indie music, and even some of the writing is done by teens themselves. Skins is also known for holding actual real-life Skins parties that are just as crazy as the show (well, almost). Like me, you might just find it unrealistically cool that everyone get’s fucked up at one point, yet they all manage to make it to their exams the day after. Read more…
