Hey, I'm Charlie Bartlett and this is my blog about teen movies, music, videos, personal rants. Feel free to make a request or ask advice and dont forget to register!
I’m not really a big fan of Pearl Jam. They just never clicked with me. But I’ve always been drawn to “Jeremy”. This song wasn’t even suppose to be a single and it’s about a kid who commits suicide in school (which you know, really happened). The video caused a lot of controversy because at the end the kids are splattered with blood and people thought that Jeremy shot up the classroom, which pretty much showed me how stupid and unwilling to listen people are. An awesome song abetted by an awesome video, I can’t really describe what a profound effect this song had on me the first time I heard it, even though I had noooooo clue what Eddie Vedder was saying. It was one of my first examples of how music can be so much more than entertainment.
Mixi is a singer that won this tiny tiny known reality show called “Redemption Song” on fuse. It was your typical “bad girls go girl” reality show and I really wasn’t impressed with any of the girls.
But Mixi won and later came out with this song. It’s really nostalgic and all about wanting to get back to her childhood. When I first listened to it I just wanted to gather some friends, sit around my living room, and talk about when we were kids and the crazy things we had done then and how much we had changed. It kind of sucks because we’re all at a point where we’ll be going to college or jail soon and it’s kind of like our group song. The lyrics to me are the best because Mixi’s kind of goofy and I love her voice and that she came out with something like this is amazing.
This is one of my favorite songs ever. It’s about how Hollywood movies glorify violence, sex, and drugs. “Slow motion” refers to when they slow down scenes in movies- you can make anything look cool when you do that, that doesn’t mean it’s good. It just seems like every “good” movie that people take seriously has to be packed with unrealistic extreme destructive behavior. NEWSFLASH: problems aren’t cool.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, people can have sex everyday and not hurt anybody; murder, on the other hand, ISN’T NORMAL yet we see it more often in movies and it’s even considered more “appropriate” to see than sex. Suck my dick hollywood.
I really get ticked off when people ask me why artists like Marilyn Manson have to swear and be “vulgar.” It’s not like they were born that way, they BECAME who they are because of their surroundings. America is fucked up. And…to be honest, I don’t know why more people aren’t.
I saw this video the other day and I was like DAAAAAAMN this girl is awesome! I don’t usually like “myspace sluts”, but this song goes HARD and the video is super-sexy. “I Love U” sounds like a cross between a Lil Jon song and what Britney Spears SHOULD sing if she didn’t give a fuck. You can watch the video above and download the song below.
Today wasn’t that great of a day. One of my roommates had to move out cuz she didn’t have enough money to pay rent i’m gonna miss her. So you know I had to start listening to some fucking happy music to get me in a good mood. Thanksgiving break is over and it’s back to school tomorrow.
This one was a request. And, as you guys know, I ALWAYS do requests….even it it takes me forever to do them lol.
I’ve been feeling a bit old lately…no joke. I know I’m only 20 and all but, shit, all of my younger friends just can’t relate with all of my responsibilities now. Most of them have never had a job in their life and never lived a week without mommy doing their dishes and cooking for them. I remember being lazy too, but damn, was I really THAT lazy?
Uhh, I have no idea why I just typed that. I was gonna talk about the song, but o well.
I don’t like many Fiona Apple songs, but when she sung this cover of John Lennon’s “Across The universe” I couldn’t believe my ears. This is the song that plays at the end credits of Pleasantville, and it suits it perfectly. Great movies paired with great songs only come around once in a while,
As some of you might know, I’m a huge Eminem fan and when I found out his new album had leaked I quickly rushed to download it…only to be disappointed. Obviously the man has been through some shit with depression and drugs, but he barely talks about those problems on the album. So here I present to you the best two songs on Relapse (not including the bonus tracks) “My Mom” & “Beautiful.” And waddayaknow, they both have lyrics about drugs.
Most teen artists come out singing/rapping about subject material that isn’t even written by them and that teens can’t relate to. Lady Sovereign, on the other hand, is NOT one of those artists. I just love the “playin’ the Sega” line in “Those Were The Days” cuz that’s what I used to play when I was young too.
