Hey, I'm Charlie Bartlett and this is my blog about teen movies, music, videos, personal rants. Feel free to make a request or ask advice and dont forget to register!
This song is so beautiful that I just needed to share it. Not to mention that I’m sure most every boy and girl in or who has gone through High School will be able to listen to this song and relate.
The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone in HS, though, so don’t expect them to be the most metaphorical or sophisticated. However, how many times have you found that lyrics of that nature ever made you feel any emotions? I really can’t think of any. I think it’s the direct lyrics that make this song, not to mention the amazing harmonies, the note choices… everything about this song is beautiful. Not to mention the point of the song rings true and happens frequently.
As a follow up to that video, I think I should post this song. No, it doesn’t constantly pummel you with reasons why we’re lucky to have what we do have, but I guess that’s why I like it better. Plus, it does have the line “no matter how hard it seems/there’s always someone in another position,” which I think just works.
Beautiful song with an uplifting positive message. Check it out.
You guys don’t mind checking into something different, right? I think if you’re into metal or not, this is an album worth looking into. I think it’ll hit you emotionally during some of the songs if you are like me.
I’ve been listening to this album since a bit before my senior year of high school. This album instrumentals perfectly captured what I felt at the time: anger, alienation, complete isolation (yeah, I was an outcast… and one of those kids). There are lyrics, yeah, but I couldn’t tell you a single one: the vocalist shrieks his way through the album. Honestly, it works in its favor: the shrieks compliment the music and gives it a sense of desperation. The atmosphere is bleak. It’s completely beautiful, I think.
Voltaire is a beast. He totally kicks Christianity’s ass in this song. I love this song because it’s kind of mocking the idea of Hell, mocking the gospel way of singing, I love it- I’m not really one for hearing about religion in songs, for/against, but Volataire puts it in perspective- Hell doesn’t exist except in the minds of those who believe it.
No, this song isn’t about shoes LOL. A.D.I.D.A.S stands for “All Day I Dream About Sex.” I actually remember seeing “ADIDAS” on the bathroom walls of my middle school and I never got the inside joke until years later….yesterday to be precise. Yep I guess you could call me a new Korn fan. The reason I never liked/listened to Korn was probably because one of my classmates in 8th grade tried to kill himself by taking 70 pills of ritalin (the ADHD drug). I remember him sitting behind me asking if he could go to the bathroom and then the next thing you know there’s a fucking ambulance at our school. He was wearing a Korn shirt when they found him in the bathroom.
So yeah, now I’m over that and I can finally appreciate Korn’s music. Better late than never.
I don’t like many Fiona Apple songs, but when she sung this cover of John Lennon’s “Across The Universe” I couldn’t believe my ears. This is the song that plays at the end credits of Pleasantville, and it suits it perfectly. Great movies paired with great songs only come around once in a while.
I haven’t really posted a song in a while just because I hadn’t really heard one that made me feel anything special- that is, until I heard this song the other day. If you watched the finale of That 70’s Show then you might recognize it. The original song was by Big Star but I happen to think this cover by Garbage sounds better. Basically, it’s about a boy’s perspective of the first girl he likes- he talks about wanting to go to the dance with her, avoiding her dad, and even waiting for sex.
Before I heard this album I always thought Death Cab was some emo band that I would never like. I had friends who listened to them and no matter what they would say about them, I never gave them a chance. After going through some personal stuff in the winter of ‘05 I heard that song “Soul Meets Body” on the radio (single off their album “Plans” which is also really good). Something about that song got to me, it had a great hook and even better melody. I bought Plans right away and then bought Transatlanticism. I related to the songs more on Atlanticism, it sounded like the soundtrack to my life at the time. Death Cab has a very original sound, something that is rare these days. Ben Gibbard’s voice might take a bit of time to get used to, albeit it’s one of the main reasons people find it hard to get into their music. If you can get past that though, you will find something to like in one of the songs on this album. CLICK HERE to download…
2001 was the year of pop-diva bashing for sure. Everyone was getting sick of cheezy “baby baby” songs so artists started to rebel. And who could do it better than a pop star herself? Pink told LA Ried (her manager) to basically shove it and that she wasn’t going to be another Britney Spears. At first, they thought this album was going to be a flop….LOFL. I’m a guy, and I admit, this album was da SHIT when it came out. It’s rare to find a Top 40 pop album that REALLY “sticks it to da man” if ya know what I mean.
On a side note, this album totally transformed my sister. Before she used to be a goody goody, but after she got this CD for her birthday, you could see a DRASTIC change by the end of the year. Back when we still bought CD’s lol.
This is one of the highest selling, and not to mention, greatest albums of the 90’s. It remains the best-selling debut album by a female artist in the U.S.. I still think Courtney Love rocked harder with her band Hole, but Alanis was still grungy (of course, Courtney still paved the way). Not exactly pop and not exactly rock, but somewhere in between, which is why she was more acceptable and popular. My favorite song from here has to be “Hand in My Pocket” because it shows that Alanis is really a great songwriter.
If you ask me, she fell off after this CD. I don’t really like her new stuff.
Jaaerdfoll: hey everybody
