OMFG! It’s The…

Sometimes I love college, and sometimes I feel like I’m wasting my life at school. Not as much as high school, but thoughts like this get to me everyday in class. Thank god it’s the weekend…oh nvm I’ve got class in like 7 hours lol.

I’ve been a fan of Larry Clark ever since I saw the awesome movie Bully, so I decided to go on a quest to watch some of his other movies. However, I was pretty disappointed. Kids, I thought, was overrated, and his other movies are just pointlessly shocking. This movie, however, is pretty good compared to his other lesser known films even though it lacks a lot of action and dialog, but then again, that’s real life for ya. It’s about a group of poor Latino skaters in their young teens living in South Central LA. Some of this movie is a bit exaggerated and stereotypical, but it’s MEANT to be. Notice how almost EVERY character is cliche in the movie. It’s supposed to make a statement about how Latino kids are the new scapegoat for America. Oh, and the part where the kid gets shot while jumping the wall is supposed to be a metaphorical stab at policing the border.

Just to let everyone know, the title is misleading, and the audio is crap. The video itself, however, is interesting (coming from someone who loathes The View).

Our views on female sexuality are very hindered by religion and tradition (one and the same, though, right?) and so we go crazy upon hearing that a girl as young as eleven will have sex. The youngest girl on record pregnant was five (though that was incest and rape), and I’ve seen many girls in HS who were pregnant in their freshman year. So’s life.

Here’s where legalities and morality come in: a girl aged 15 on the video was taped saying “I was going to sleep with one of the guys anyway because he was good looking… getting paid is a bonus.” Read more…

People used to call me Kumar back in high school because they said I talked a lot like the way he does (brutality honest) LOL, but that’s not why I love this movie. If you’ve ever been so high that a trip to the bathroom seems like forever, then you’ll get most of the jokes in here. Sure, it’s a stoner flick (the plot revolves around 2 pot-heads and their quest to find fastfood) but it’s still a great comedy movie even when you aren’t stoned. If you ask me, this should be required viewing for any college student because it has a great message: all you really need to have a good time is some good weed and a good friend!

I usually hate musicals. Let me stress that…I ABSOLUTELY FUCKING HATE EVERY MUSICAL I’VE EVER SEEN. Except this one for some reason. Maybe it’s because there’s really a story to it and it has a lot of songs that i can sing to. Or maybe it’s because i think Evan Rachel Wood is hot and I was stoned the first time I saw it…yeah that might have to do something with it. Anyways, this is the ONLY musical I’ve ever seen and liked. So, if you’re like me and you hate musicals, you should at least give this one a shot cuz you just might like it.

Recently, there’s been some drama going on back at my parents house. Sure, I live miles away but I’m still affected by everything that goes on there because my sis still lives at the house (she’s 16). As far as our relationship goes, we’re pretty close. We haven’t fought in YEARS and you could say we’re best friends because we tell each other everything.

Well…almost everything.

A few days ago I had to come home from Atlanta (I only live about an hour away) because she was caught shoplifting clothes for her friends. It was a pretty big deal because the cops were involved and she and her 2 friends were in cuffs when my mom picked her up. My usually over-dramatic mother was even more dramatic on the phone: “You better have a talk with your sister, she’s out of control since you left!!! Stealing clothes!? Hanging around those loser emos!!!? WE BROUGHT YOU KIDS UP BETTER THAN THAT!!!” And then she cried like she always does at the end of our conversations.

When I got home me and my sis decided to go to the roof to talk (that’s where we used to have private conversations away from our nosy parents). Here’s most of our conversation that I can remember:

Me: “So…well…I can’t say I never stole anything when I was 16, but 7 shirts???! That’s really stupid and risky.”
My sis: “I know. It’s just, you know, mom and dad never have any money. And every girl at school has better clothes than me. Where was I supposed to get the money? It’s not like I have a job or anything.”
Me: “*patting her head* I would have bought you some clothes you idiot. You know that!”
My sis: (half smiling) “I know….”
Me: (by now I could tell she was holding something back) “Then why?”
My sis: “Because….see…there’s this girl…” Read more…

Kiera Knightly is hot. Ok, now that I’ve got that off my chest I’d like to tell you how good I think this movie is. Sure, it’s targeted towards chicks, but it’s not JUST some soccer film about girls. It also has cultural things about how much it sucks to have foreign controlling parents (something I can relate to). Just thought I’d share this cuz most of the movies I’ve been sharing lately are pretty dramatic. This one’s fun. Enjoy it with a friend and/or popcorn.

This one’s hilarious.

Lucky me… I’m not a hugger… at all. Looks like I won’t get fucked over by a bunch of prudes who think that somehow hugging will lead to much dirtier acts. I’m assuming that is what’s frightening the school officials in question to dole out such harsh punishment as they are towards those who show affection of any sort. In fact, in my high school, I remember that hugging would fall under the “public displays of affection” violation, and you would be warned not to do it. This one kid I know went around giving hugs and was told off for it. I can understand why they wouldn’t want distractions, but is hugging that big a distraction? This was the fucking cafeteria, for crying out loud. Our brains were off, our conversations were completely primitive, and we had time to kill. I don’t understand.

This is the one video you in which you will find no rants or excessively long comments. Right to the point: it’s just a video that shows a girl who is standing up on the bus and suddenly flies into the roof via speed bump.

This song is so beautiful that I just needed to share it. Not to mention that I’m sure most every boy and girl in or who has gone through High School will be able to listen to this song and relate.

The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone in HS, though, so don’t expect them to be the most metaphorical or sophisticated. However, how many times have you found that lyrics of that nature ever made you feel any emotions? I really can’t think of any. I think it’s the direct lyrics that make this song, not to mention the amazing harmonies, the note choices… everything about this song is beautiful. Not to mention the point of the song rings true and happens frequently.
